Artistic playground in Farfa – Playtime and imagination

The playground in Farfa came into being about two years ago, on land owned by the F. Cremonesi Foundation. It is an on-going project that promises not only to expand, but to bring joy to countless children and even their adult companions as they discover new ways to have fun outdoors and close to home.

It all began with the idea of inviting artists to come up with a structure of some sort that was both a piece of contemporary art and something fun that children would want to play with or on. The idea was adopted by 20eventi and the Prior of Farfa Abbey, Don Eugenio Gargiulo OSB, who also happens to be the President of the Cremonesi Foundation, jumped on board immediately and with great enthusiasm.

What better way to familiarize children with the expressive forms and language of contemporary art than enabling them to play in an artistic environment created specifically for them to have fun?

20eventi_Vaast Colson

Hans Theys ha realizzato numeosi video su Vaast Colson, ed ha recentemente caricato video realizzato durante una visita presso l’atelier dell’artista belga.

Vaast Colson è un artista insegnante che proviene dall’Accademia belga di Anversa http://www.artesis.be/academie/

Egli, insieme a Nadia Naveau, guiderà i giovani allievi dell’Accademia a realizzare opere appositamente per la Sabina.

Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma

Stanza 305

Stamattina, nella stanza 305 dell’Accademia delle Belle Arti di Roma abbiamo presentato 20eventi ai giovani artisti di Roma.

Alberto Tessore e Emanuele Sbardella presentano 20eventi

Una selezione di questi, sotto la guida di Oriana Impei e Donato Bianco realizzerà un complesso scultoreo presso l’Abbazia di Farfa.

Era presente anche Emmanuele Pilia, che oggi ho proposto ad Alberto come architetto di 20eventi, per allestimenti e strutture di accoglienza.

Alla fine della presentazione sono giunte anche alcune interessanti proposte da parte della Impei , di implementare le sculture con performance e video (coinvolgendo anche gli studenti di regia).

20eventi is a shining example that proves that there is more to contemporary art than a handful of investors in just a few of the world’s great cities.

20eventi is the manifestation of the hope that art can and does flourish even in small towns and amongst people who don’t normally visit museums and art galleries.

20eventi, that celebrates its fourth anniversary in 2009, is all about inviting young artists from prestigious academies to come to the Sabina, a rural district not far from Rome, where, under the guidance of top-calibre artists-teachers, they have the opportunity to immerse themselves in village life and culture and work side-by-side with young Italians to
create installations and works of art in situ.

The first event in 2006 featured the pupils of Giuseppe Penone from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, the second spotlighted the students of Karin Sander from the Weissensee Academy in Berlin whilst in 2008 it was the turn of Richard Wentworth and pupils from the Ruskin School of Oxford University.

In 2009, the Sabina is looking forward to welcoming students from four different academies – two of which are Belgian, whilst Italy will be represented by the “Belle Arti” from Rome and the Brera from Milan.

The two short-term goals of 20eventi are to provide young artists with an opportunity to experience new surroundings and a different way of life and local communities to encounter contemporary art on their doorstep.

Long-term however, the plan for the coming years is to establish an Art Route through the Sabina and an open-air museum that will stimulate local interest in Art and the creative process, which is also the purpose behind the great efforts already being made in the
district’s schools, starting at nursery and elementary school levels.
